Morpheus8 vs. Microneedling: Which Skin Treatment Is Right for You?
Two of the most asked-about treatments at Bellissima Medical Spa in Long Beach are microneedling and Morpheus8. Both involve needles. Both stimulate collagen. Both deliver real, visible results. But they are not the same treatment, and choosing the right one depends on your skin concerns, your goals, and what you're willing to invest.
This guide walks through exactly what each treatment does, who it's best for, what results look like, and how they compare side by side — so you can walk into your consultation at our Long Beach studio with clarity.
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling — also called collagen induction therapy — uses a device with fine, sterile needles to create thousands of microscopic channels in the skin's surface. These controlled micro-injuries trigger your skin's natural repair response: it produces new collagen and elastin to close each tiny wound.
The result? Smoother texture, reduced pore size, improvement in acne scars and hyperpigmentation, and a general glow that comes from fresh cellular activity just beneath the skin's surface.
At Bellissima Medical Spa in Long Beach, microneedling is priced at $300 per session, with a 3-session package available at $800. Most clients benefit from a series of 4–6 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart, followed by maintenance treatments every 3–6 months. Downtime is minimal — some redness and sensitivity for 24–48 hours is typical.
Microneedling is an excellent entry-point treatment for clients who are new to skin rejuvenation procedures, or for those dealing with texture, mild scarring, or dullness.
What Is Morpheus8?
Morpheus8 takes microneedling to the next level by combining it with radiofrequency (RF) energy. The device delivers RF energy through the same microneedles, penetrating up to 8 millimeters into the dermis and subdermal tissue. This depth is far beyond what standard microneedling reaches.
At that depth, the RF energy heats the underlying tissue, causing immediate contraction of existing collagen fibers and triggering a prolonged regenerative response that can continue for up to 6 months after a single session. The result is not just surface improvement — it's structural remodeling of the skin from the inside out.
Morpheus8 is particularly effective for:
Skin laxity and early jowling
Deep wrinkles and folds
Body contouring (arms, abdomen, thighs)
Acne scars — particularly deep or pitted scars
Skin tightening after weight loss
Overall facial rejuvenation in clients 35+
At Bellissima Medical Spa in Long Beach, Morpheus8 is $700 per session, with a 3-session package at $1,900. (We often run specials on packages of 3 so check our Specials!) The recommended protocol for most clients is 3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Downtime is slightly longer than standard microneedling, typically 2–4 days of redness and swelling, with most clients returning to normal activities within 3–5 days.
Key Differences at a Glance
Depth: Microneedling works at 0.5–2.5mm; Morpheus8 reaches up to 8mm into subdermal tissue
Technology: Microneedling uses mechanical stimulation only; Morpheus8 adds RF thermal energy
Best for: Microneedling excels at surface texture, tone, and mild scarring; Morpheus8 addresses deeper laxity, significant wrinkles, and contouring
Downtime: Microneedling — 24-48 hours; Morpheus8 — 3–5 days
Price: Microneedling from $300; Morpheus8 from $700
Results timeline: Both produce progressive improvement over 3–6 months
Can They Be Combined?
Yes, and for the right client, combining the two is actually an excellent strategy. Morpheus8 handles the deeper structural work (tightening, contouring, deep scars) while maintenance microneedling sessions keep the surface smooth and glowing between Morpheus8 protocols. Many of our Long Beach clients do a Morpheus8 series once a year and maintenance microneedling quarterly.
We also offer PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) as an add-on to both treatments. PRP is derived from your own blood and applied immediately post-treatment to supercharge the healing response and enhance results. PRP add-on to Morpheus8 is $350. Microneedling with PRP is $450.
